Fundraising for a new venture is never easy. Particularly for first-time entrepreneurs, the process can take months, and the randomness and ups & downs can be draining. But experienced fundraisers will tell you that effective fundraising shouldn't feel random at all: in fact, it's 80% planning and 20% execution. Fundraising workshops typically focus on that 20% (how to reach out to investors, how to pitch, etc.); this session will instead focus onhow to put together an effective fundraising strategy: deciding how much to raise, who to raise from, and why. We'll hear from two seasoned veteran entrepreneurs & investors who have just closed funding rounds on their individual approaches and advice for early-stage entrepreneurs.

Who are you and why are you here?
This is your moment to take the stage (literally, a stage) and talk about whatever you want, within the realm of art and tech, for a max of four minutes:
Recent projects you've been working on, ideas, manifestos, speeches, etc, or perhaps simply introduce yourself and tell us about what type of people you are interesting in meeting or collaborating with through this group.
Each presenter may bring one image to share during their talk. Transfer the file to us from your phone/laptop/etc when you arrive and sign up.
Happy hour drinks will be on special at the bar.

Samuel James has brought the art and science of analyzing and measuring success to digital marketing clients for more than 6 years. In another life, Sam was a physicist. He brings that love for numbers, statistical modeling, and testing to the digital marketing table. His creative problem solving methods have impressed companies like NASA and Microsoft. Currently, Sam is the Director of Analytics for premier digital marketing agency, Point It, in Seattle. Sam has a B.A. in physics from Wichita State University and likes hiking, playing board games, bowling, knitting, and movies.
Founder to Founder is a fireside chat/interview format. Dave Parker, CEO of Code Fellows (LinkedIn) will interview experienced founders about their experiences, current companies and lessons they wish they could have told their younger selves.

You’re trying new things, testing new ideas and messages, searching for the sales & marketing model that will propel you forward. In this lunch session, you’ll hear best practices for turning that machete into a scalpel – converting early-stage sales traction into sustainable, repeatable & scalable programs, processes and results for your business. You’ll walk away with specific templates, processes and best practices you can apply to your start-up immediately.
Is the university system the most effective path for cultivating startup communities?
In what ways is it ideal, and in what ways it is insufficient?
We've seen a rise in alternative education options, such as skills-based training, workshops, MOOCs, immersive programs, and so forth. Are these options poised to challenge the university status quo, or do they have another destiny?
There are those who would challenge the entire formalized education system altogether, given the availability of information, the success of many entrepreneurs who opted not to complete their degrees, and the rising costs of tuition. When is it really okay to "drop out"?
In this panel, we’re going to cover these questions and possibly more, time permitting.

CoMotion Incubator Working Sessions: Value Propositions with Lisa Fernow
CoMotion Incubator is a collaborative hub for students, faculty, staff, and the local innovation community. We host many networking, educational, and social events providing the opportunity to mindshare with and inspire startups and aspiring entrepreneurs in the UW family.
Goal with our Working Sessions
To provide our CoMotion Incubator Community with access to leading experts that can close the GAP in startup knowledge. These workshops will give startups, teams and students a chance to learn practical knowledge, as well as provide hands-on training, and networking opportunities with professionals in various branches of business.
Format of the Working Sessions
The working sessions will have a topic and an area expert providing key insights and knowledge regarding the topic in a 20 minute lecture format. After the lecture, the attendees will break into working sessions to engage with the topic as it relates to them. We will invite CoMotion mentors and EIRs as a resource to the attendees to help answer any questions and think through any problems they may be facing. All lectures will be video captured and livestreamed.
Networking will begin at noon.
Lecture will start at 12:15pm.
The working sessions will be open from 12:35pm to 3pm.

This year’s Job Fair aims to connect talented job seekers with the best Seattle-based startups and growth-mode companies. This year's event will provide you with an opportunity to interact with all of Seattle’s most exciting tech companies together in one place.
